NNPP suspends Kwankwaso, others

The Board of Trustees (BoT) of the New Nigeria Peoples Party, NNPP, has suspended its candidate in the Feb. 25 presidential election, Sen. Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso for alleged anti-party activities.

The BoT also suspended the National Working Committee, NWC, members of the party.

It also appointed new national officers headed by Dr Agbo Major as acting National Chairman and Mr Ogini Olaposi as the Acting National Secretary.

The suspension is for six months.

Addressing newsmen at the end of the meeting in Lagos on Tuesday, Secretary of the BoT, Babayo Muhammed Abdulahi accused Kwankwaso of hobnobbing with President Bola Tinubu, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) presidential candidate, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, and the presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP) Mr. Peter Obi, without the board’s authorisation.

Abdullahi announced that Kwankwaso had been stripped of the NNPP national leader status by the board.

Tinubu Unveils 8-Point Agenda

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu yesterday unveiled an eight-point agenda to turn around the economy and make life comfortable for all Nigerians.

The Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister for the Economy, Wale Edun, presented the “Roadmap for the Economy”, which was considered at the maiden Federal Executive Council meeting held yesterday

Edun, who briefed State House reporters, listed the agenda as including food security; ending poverty; economic growth and job creation; access to capital; improving security; improving the playing field on which people and particularly companies operate; rule of law; and fighting corruption.

He said FEC examined the eight priority areas and identified targets to deliver in the next three years.

Police parade 67 over alleged gay marriage in Delta

Delta State Police command has paraded 67 gay suspects arrested at an alleged gay wedding at a hotel in Uvwie local government area.

The state Police spokesman, DSP Bright Edafe said they would be prosecuted in line with laws relating to anti-gay issues.

He said about one hundred of them were arrested but at the end of the profiling the number was scaled down to 67.

” We arrested about a hundred of them but after investigation, the number of the suspects dropped to 67.

“They will be arraigned in court in line with the laws of the land”, he said.

An invitation card to the party where the suspected gays were arrested that was sighted by Vanguard simply read , : ” All white party /award nite .Dress code is white and white. 1k gate fee, table for four 5k. Date 26 August, 2023.”

The police image maker also warned youths to desist from acts running against the laws of the land.

He also advised those into criminal activities in Warri, Uvwie and other parts of the state to shun such acts, saying the command was determined to smoke them out.

“The command is ever ready to smoke out criminal elements in Warri, Uvwie and other parts of the state.

“I urge all youths on behalf of the state Commissioner of Police,.CP Wale Abass to be law abiding. Shun every temptations to go into crime because if you are caught the laws will apply”, he said.

Taraba: Tension in Jalingo over spate of kidnapping

Residents of Jalingo, the Taraba State capital, have been living in fear over spate of kidnappings in the Mayo-Dassa area of the town as 14 people have been kidnapped within the last eight days around Mayo-Dassa Primary School, Gulum, and Air Street, both within the Mayo-Dassa area of Jalingo.

Our Correspondent gathered that the kidnapped victims are mostly businessmen and successful farmers, but most prominent among them is a major distributor of an international brewery company in the state.

A house owner, Mr. Akuwe Habu, told Tribune Online that two of his tenants who are businessmen have relocated to other areas where they believe are safer within the town despite renewing their rent a few months ago.

Two of my tenants who renewed their rent not up to four months, have packed to another area within Jalingo following the waves of kidnapping here in Mayo-Dassa.

“Just within the last eight days, 14 people have been kidnapped and no contact has been established with their families for ransom negotiation. Those kidnapped so far are businessmen and successful farmers.

“As soon as it is 7 pm, the Mayo-Dassa Primary school, Air Street, and Gulum areas become a (No Go ), areas and the situation has created a lot of fear even in those living around the market side.

“90 percent of well-to-do individuals are no longer sleeping in their houses. They only come around in the daytime and disappear as soon as it is 5 pm in fear of being kidnapped,” he said.
