President Bola Tinubu has reaffirmed Africa’s unity and strength, while strongly rejecting the notion of a new scramble for Africa.

The President who said this on Sunday in Nairobi, Kenya warned that past plundering and exploitation of the continent should remain in the past and never be repeated.

AIT report that, Speaking at the Fifth Mid-Year Coordination Meeting (5thMYCM) of the African Union (AU), the Regional Economic Communities (RECs), the Regional Mechanisms (RMs), and the African Union Member-States, the President announced plans to strengthen the ECOWAS Standby Force to deter coups and combat terrorism in the sub-region.

The Nigerian president emphasised the advancements made by ECOWAS in various areas of its integration process, including trade, free movement of people, investment promotion, infrastructure development, and security, in his capacity as Chairperson of the ECOWAS Authority of Heads of State and Government.

He emphasised the need for Africa to overcome its obstacles and work towards a prosperous future in his speech titled “Address on Status of Regional Integration in ECOWAS,” putting an emphasis on inclusive growth, good governance, and utilising the opportunities offered by the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA).

AIT report that, President Tinubu declared: “As Africans, we move ahead no matter the barriers set before us. We call for good government to create a successful future for Africa, free from the exploitations of the past.

“The world we live in is frequently unfair and unpredictable. Current global challenges and the course of recent history militate against our future prosperity.

The world economy can be upset in ways that hinder advancement and encourage a downturn, as lessons from the previous several years have shown us. If we choose to remain passive viewers of our fate, our nations may unexpectedly find themselves in terrible positions.
