Tinubu: “I Don’t See It As a Ministerial List, I See It As a Compensation" –Benjamin Oyamendan

In response to President Bola Tinubu’s ministerial nominees, Benjamin Oyamendan, a governorship aspirant of the Labour Party in Edo State, expressed his views during an interview with Arise TV . He criticized the list, stating that it seems more like a compensation list rather than a genuine ministerial selection.

Oyamendan pointed out that most of the individuals on the list are familiar faces, comprising former governors of various states. He also raised concerns about some nominees having past issues with the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC). Moreover, Oyamendan lamented the absence of representation for Nigerian youths on the list, emphasizing that addressing the nation’s challenges necessitates inclusion and engagement of the youth.

Oyamendan’s interview shed light on his perception of President Bola Tinubu’s ministerial nominees. He viewed the list as lacking diversity and fresh perspectives, as it mainly consisted of individuals who have held positions of power before, specifically ex-governors from different states. Additionally, Oyamendan highlighted the questionable backgrounds of some nominees, given their past encounters with the EFCC, raising concerns about their suitability for ministerial roles.

Furthermore, Oyamendan expressed disappointment in the absence of young people among the nominees. He stressed the importance of involving Nigerian youths in decision-making processes to address the nation’s challenges effectively. According to him, addressing the issues facing the youth is a crucial step towards tackling broader national issues. He urged for more inclusivity and recognition of the youth’s role in shaping the country’s future.

In his words: “I don’t see it as a ministerial list, I see it as a compensation list because everyone on that list are the people that we have been seeing before and most of them are ex governors of the states. And some of them have issues with the Economy Financial Crime Commission (EFCC). I am sad because the Nigerian youths are not being involved on that list and if you want to address the issues of this nation you have to first address the issues of Youths.”

Finally, Benjamin Oyamendan’s reaction to President Bola Tinubu’s ministerial nominees highlighted concerns about the list being perceived as a form of compensation for certain individuals, rather than a diverse and impactful ministerial selection. He criticized the prominence of former governors and some nominees’ history with the EFCC. Oyamendan also stressed the need for increased youth representation to address Nigeria’s challenges comprehensively. His comments brought attention to the importance of inclusivity and fresh perspectives in governance.
