Tinubu: Buhari Had Least Votes In East; Let It Be That Somebody Is Representing South-East – Nwoye

A Senator representing Anambra in the National Assembly and a staunch member of the Labour Party (LP), Senator Tony Nwoye, has asked President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to appoint Ministers to represent the South-East zone in his cabinet; as he maintained that even though former President Muhammadu Buhari had the least votes in the region in 2019, he was fair in power sharing.

Senator Tony Nwoye had said, “Let it be that somebody is representing South-East based on geopolitical zone. Buhari had the least votes in the East in his reelection but he still gave us one per zone.”

Nwoye, who spoke during an interview on Politics Today, a Channels Television programme, suggested that President Tinubu has not been fair in the nomination of Ministers. According to him, the five Ministers that have been appointed from the South-East are representing their respective States in Tinubu’s cabinet and not the zone. He said the former Lagos governor had appointed other Ministers to represent other regions aside the ones representing their States.

Nwoye urged the President to ensure that the South-East is represented. He maintained that a section of the Federal Character Rule mandated the President to appoint Ministers to represent every zone of the country.

The lawmaker went further to say that the President could not marginalize the South-East because the zone supported Peter Obi, as he insisted that the Yoruba ethnic group also backed the former Lagos governor because he is from the region.
