Operatives of the Kano State Police command have arrested a 21- year- old kidnapper, Auwal Abdulrashid a. k. a Lauje, for the kidnapping and murder of a 13- year- old female hawker named Zuwaira.
The command spokesman, DSP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa disclosed this in a statement, where he stated that the suspect, a resident of Tofa Township in Tofa LGA of Kano was arrested on January 9, 2022.
According to him, the suspect was a neighbour and close friend to the family of the deceased.
DSP Kiyawa informed journalists that the case of the missing 13- year- old girl was reported to the police by the victim’ s father on July 21, 2021.
It was reported that the body of the victim was found in an uncompleted building, slaughtered and buried in a shallow grave while negotiation was still ongoing.
He said, ” On receipt of the ugly report, scene was visited, the body was exhumed, examined and confirmed dead by a Medical Doctor and released to the relatives for burial according to Islamic rites.
” The Commissioner of Police, Kano State Command, CP Sama’ ila Shu’ aibu Dikko, fsi immediately raised and instructed a team of Operation Puff Adder led by SP Shehu Dahiru to arrest the culprits. “
He noted that the police team swung into action immediately and were able to arrest Lauje at Dan marke village, Dambatta LGA of the State.
He said the suspect in his confessional statement said, ” I lured her into an uncompleted, pretending I wanted to buy what she was selling.
” She followed me into the uncompleted building, I grabbed her hijab and tied her neck with it, I pulled out a knife and slaughtered her from behind.
” I buried her within the uncompleted building, I put a call across to her parents, I demanded N1 million ransom.
” We kept negotiating, we settled for N400, 000, then suddenly they changed their mind. They now informed me that they have discovered the corpse of their daughter. “
The police image- maker added that the police investigations into the case have been completed, and that the suspect will be charged and prosecuted soon.
