My Loyalty To Obaseki Remains Absolute, Shaibu Says Amid Rift With Governor

The Edo State Deputy Governor Philip Shaibu has reiterated his commitment to his principal Governor Godwin Obaseki.

According to Channels Television, Obaseki had recently accused his deputy of plotting a coup against him further deepening the rift between the duo amid moves for Shaibu’s impeachment.

But Shaibu has downplayed the rift, declining to make public comments about Obaseki.

“I definitely wouldn’t want to talk about the problems that were going on in the neighbourhood while I was abroad. I don’t like talking on television about things that bother my governor. Not at all! I don’t think I should discuss anything with him since he is both my older brother and my boss. And if I disagree with him, I believe it is best to resolve it privately rather than publicly. I was raised nicely, he declared outside of a Benin thanksgiving service commemorating the 32nd anniversary of Edo State.

“I can tell you from my Christian upbringing that you must keep a pledge you make to God if you intend to do something.

And I have sworn to God that I will continue to back Godwin Obaseki as governor of Edo State throughout his tenure.

“However, that has no effect on anything related to ambition. Ambition is a personal trait that has no bearing on loyalty. My allegiance to the governor is unwavering. Everyone is showing solidarity, as I can see. I support the governor in this as well. Additionally, I reaffirm my solemn allegiance to the governor and nothing else.

Channels Television report that, Obaseki noted that the state has advanced significantly since its founding at the interdenominational church service that was held on Sunday at the Government House in the administrative centre of Edo State.

Governor Obaseki is urging residents to work together to improve the future of Edo State despite the state’s ethnic and religious diversity.
