Protest hits Kano State over planned military intervention in Niger Republic

Many Nigerians took to the streets of Kano to protest against America and President Tinubu’ s involvement in the affairs of the Niger Republic after the sacking of constitutionally elected president Bazoum.

The protesters who carried various placards were reportedly chanting ” death to America, give us Islam, ” blasting Tinubu and other world leaders for trying to send military intervention to Niger, DAILY TRUST reports.

” Attack on Niger is injustice. It’ s the making of Israel. Death to America. All we want is Islam, ” hordes of protesters chanted in a viral video as they marched in solidarity with Niger military junta.

Similar to the demand of the protesters, the Russian foreign ministry on Friday expressed concern that military intervention within Niger could inadvertently escalate the prevailing crisis, potentially sparking a prolonged and arduous conflict.

The ministry added that the invasion of Niger might trigger destabilisation across the entire Sahara- Sahel region.

The ministry’ s statement read, ” We harbor the belief that a military- centric resolution to the Niger crisis holds the potential to extend hostilities within the nation and to drastically destabilize the broader Sahara- Sahel region. “

Meanwhile, while ECOWAS has said it remains open to finding a diplomatic solution to the crisis, Nigeria’ s President Bola Tinubu said on Thursday: ” No option is taken off the table, including the use of force as a last resort. “

Reacting to the situation, the United States urged the military junta to as a matter of urgency allow the restoration of the country’ s democratic constitution, stressing the US will give ECOWAS the necessary support needed to resolve the crisis, according to report by DAILY TRUST.
