PEPC: If Abuja Is A State & It Has No Special Status, who Is The Gov & What Is The Capital?- Oseloka

Oseloka H Obaze, a prominent member of the Labour Party, has questioned the recent ruling by the presidential election petition court regarding the status of Abuja.

In a post shared on his official Twitter page, Obaze raised two important questions – if Abuja is now considered a state like the court ruled, who is the governor of this new state and what is its capital?

Obaze’s comments come in the aftermath of the presidential election petition case judgement delivered earlier this week.

The court had ruled that the Federal Capital Territory Abuja is a state and does not have any special status.

This was part of the reasoning given while dismissing the petition filed by the Labour Party and its presidential candidate, Peter Obi.

The court’s judgement has elicited mixed reactions from many Nigerians. Obaze’s questions aim to highlight some of the absurdities that may arise from the court declaring Abuja a state.

If Abuja is now like any other state, it must have a sitting governor and the Federal Capital Territory will need a new capital.

Obaze’s questions force people to think about the implications of the court’s ruling. By raising these important points, he aims to show how flawed the court’s logic was in arriving at the judgement.

The ruling seems to create more complications than solutions regarding the status of the Federal Capital Territory.
