No Incriminating Evidence Found When Emefiele Was Arrested; Only ₦300k Seen – Kingdom Okere
During an interview with AIT, Kingdom Okere, the Convener of Lawyers in Defence of Democracy, revealed that when Godwin Emefiele was apprehended by the DSS, no implicating proof was discovered in his residence; they merely stumbled upon three hundred thousand Naira. This entire case appears to be a personal vendetta, an attempt to resurface the Naira redesign political controversy that Nigerians are striving to put behind them.
As per Okere, “When Godwin Emefiele was taken into custody by the DSS, they found no incriminating evidence at his residence, only a sum of three hundred thousand Naira. Despite investigating him from January to June, no substantiating evidence has been uncovered thus far, no bank account linking Godwin Emefiele to the alleged sponsoring of terrorists, as they claimed. The focal point of this case lies with the current president. One must question why the Director General of the DSS remains in his position even after Bola Tinubu has removed other service chiefs. In fact, the man’s appointment is shrouded in controversy, with allegations suggesting that Buhari reinstated him after retirement, yet Tinubu allows him to retain his position.”
In his statement, Okere remarked, “Bola Tinubu resigned as the Director General of DSS due to his involvement in the Naira redesign policy controversy. If there exists any evidence connecting Emefiele to terrorists, the DSS should have presented it since they arrested him. However, no evidence has been found to substantiate their claims or press charges against him. Godwin Emefiele merely acted upon the former president’s directives. They are merely attempting to fabricate a case against him.”
