There Will Be A Day Of Reckoning For All Those Who Have Run Nigeria Down, Including INEC – Akin Osuntokun

Amidst the ongoing proceedings at the Presidential Election Petitions Tribunal (PEPT), Balogun Akin Osuntokun, a prominent Southwest politician and Labour Party chieftain, has reiterated his belief that judgment awaits public servants who have caused harm to the country due to their selfish interests.

During an interview on ARISE TV’s ‘Morning Show’ on Sunday, July 16, Osuntokun, who serves as the Director-General of the Labour Party Presidential Campaign Council, emphasized that while man-made institutions may have failed to deliver justice against politicians and public officials involved in looting the nation’s treasury, divine intervention often brings consequences upon such individuals.

Supporting his viewpoint, Osuntokun shared his knowledge of numerous former governors who, despite diverting substantial amounts of the country’s financial resources for personal gain, eventually found themselves in a state of abject poverty.

He stated, “Look, there will be a day of reckoning for all those who have run Nigeria down, including INEC. If it does not happen today, it will happen tomorrow. If it does not come through the judgment of man, then God will do it. There is something that has always agitated my mind. I know quite a number of public officials, especially former governors, who stole and acquired so many resources that they ran into the billions. But a few years after leaving office, I am always dumbfounded to find out that quite a number of them have become near-poverty-stricken. How do you explain that? So if you are sitting down and thinking that nothing will happen to you today, there will be tomorrow.”

Osuntokun’s statement reflects his belief in the concept of eventual accountability for those who have mismanaged and exploited Nigeria’s resources for personal gain. He highlights the surprising downfall of some former governors, suggesting that divine justice may play a role in exposing and punishing such actions.
