There is no basis to compare PDP govt with what we are seeing under the APC govt – Sikirulahi Ogundele
The Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ogun State, Sikirulahi Ogundele, has shared his thoughts on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s first 100 days in office. Tinubu, a former Governor of Lagos State and National Leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC), assumed office as President on May 29, 2023. His administration has garnered both praise and criticism from Nigerians during this initial period.
According to The Punch paper, Ogundele expressed his disappointment with President Tinubu’s first 100 days, stating that there is no basis for comparing the PDP government with the APC government. Ogundele criticized Tinubu’s decision to remove fuel subsidies without a clear plan to allete the resulting hardship, and he pointed out that the removal of subsidies has caused significant financial burdens for many Nigerians.
“There is just no basis to compare the PDP government with what we are seeing under the APC government. The 100 days in office of President Bola Tinubu is undoubtedly a bundle of disappointment. Rather than helping to assuage the pain the (former President) Muhammadu Buhari government inflicted on Nigerians, the President has worsened it. An average Yoruba man is seen to be a welfarist but Tinubu has begged to differ, with this removal of fuel subsidy without any plan on ground to cushion the excruciating pain”.
Ogundele stressed the irony of this move by the APC government, as they had previously criticized the concept of fuel subsidies during the administration of former President Goodluck Jonathan. He also shared his personal experience of increased expenses due to the need to run generators in his hotels.
In his words; “I now spend an average of N120,000 every day to run generators at my two hotels. Don’t forget that this same set of people were the ones who said subsidy was a scam; that there was nothing like subsidy when former President Goodluck Jonathan’s administration wanted to remove it”.
