The Queen once told former Manchester United manager, Sir Alex Ferguson, that no one would repeat the club’s historic treble.
Back in 1999 United won the FA Cup, Premier League, and Champions League, cementing themselves in history as one of the best English teams to ever emerge.
And the Irish Independent report that Her Majesty, who died peacefully on Thursday afternoon, agreed with the Scotsman that the achievement will never be matched.
Receiving his knighthood at Buckingham Palace in the same year as the feat, the then-Red Devils boss said: “The Queen told me she doesn’t think it will ever be achieved again and she’s right.
“The culmination of three trophies was the pinnacle of my career and it has been rewarded with a knighthood.” he continued. “It’s such a proud moment for me, my family, and for the club because it is a team effort.”

Ferguson also spoke about having been knighted by the Queen. “This is the medal that recognises all the other ones I’ve won in football,” he beamed.
The former Aberdeen boss is widely considered the greatest manager of the Premier League era, having won 13 titles in total, as well as two Champions Leagues and five FA Cups. The season of 1998/99 is often championed as his best-ever feat while presiding over United.

The Queen died at Balmoral aged 96 on Thursday, bringing an end to a reign of 70 years.
Her family gathered at her Scottish estate after concerns about her health grew throughout the day. The Queen came to the throne in 1952 and her eldest son Charles will lead the country in mourning as the new King.
In a statement, Buckingham Palace wrote: “The Queen died peacefully at Balmoral this afternoon. The King and the Queen Consort will remain at Balmoral this evening and will return to London tomorrow.”
