'The Narrative In Nigeria Has Not Focused On The Role Of The US In The Niger Coup' – Amb Usman Sarki

The Nigeria Former Deputy Permanent Rep to the UN, Ambassador Usman Sarki has alleged that the Nigerian government has not focused on the role of the United States in the Niger Coup. He said in an interview with Arise Tv news that the United States has not termed the Niger Coup as a Coup. According to him, if the US sees what had happened in Niger as a coup, they will have withheld all the aid given to the Nation.

He said, ”It’s very surprising that the narrative in Nigeria has not really focused on the role of the US in the Niger Coup. The United States did not call the takeover as a coup, they termed it as an attempted coup once and afterward, they called it an unconstitutional change of government.

So if they had termed it a military coup, that would have entirely changed the complexion of the issue. Now Niger will come under sanctions of the United States under section 7008 of the appropriation bill of the United States, whereby they will deny them military assistance, financial assistance, and other aid. This will virtually suffocate the regime.”
