The decision to leave PDP almost took my life, I became the enemy of the entire Igbo- David Umahi

The former Governor of Ebonyi State and current Minister of Works, Dave Umahi, has opened up about his decision to defect from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC) a few years ago. During a visit to Governor Francis Nwifuru as part of his state tour to inspect federal roads, Umahi expressed his gratitude for Nwifuru’s support in facilitating his defection.

According to Daily Post paper, Umahi acknowledged the role played by Governor Nwifuru, stating, “I asked if you could facilitate the process, and you did, and it is currently working. It is not every governor that would want his subject to grow, but I want to assure you of complete comfort.”

He also said that APC’s leadership, including President Tinubu, valued unity and assured that Governor Nwifuru was not in competition for the party’s leadership with anyone.

Umahi revealed the challenges he faced when making the decision to leave the PDP, describing how it had almost cost him his life and resulted in the burning of his properties. However, he highlighted that this decision ultimately led to his current position and urged others to support Governor Nwifuru in strengthening the APC in the state and the Southeast zone.

Dave Umahi said, “That decision to leave the PDP nearly took my life; my properties were burnt and I became the enemy of the entire Igbo, but the decision fetched all of us our present position. So support the governor to deepen the party in the state and the Southeast zone,”

The statement made by Dave Umahi regarding his defection and support for the APC has sparked various reactions from Nigerians on social media
