Mali, Burkina Faso to send delegation to Niger over coup crisis

Mali and Burkina Faso will send a joint delegation to Niamey, the capital of Niger, on Monday in a show of solidarity amidst a coup crisis, the Malian army said.

“Burkina Faso and Mali are sending a delegation to Niamey to show the solidarity of the two countries with the brotherly people of Niger,” the army tweeted.

The transitional governments of Burkina Faso and Mali, which were established after the military took power by force in 2020 and 2022 in the two countries, also declared their support for the Nigerien soldiers who overthrew President M inohamed Bazoum.

The two countries also warned that any military intervention in Niger would be considered as a declaration of war against them and would lead to the withdrawal of Burkina Faso and Mali from the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS).

ECOWAS, a regional political and economic union of 15 countries located in West Africa, has threatened to restore order in Niger by force.

Candidates from eight states owing the West African Examinations Council, WAEC, for various services rendered will not get their 2023 West African Senior School Certificate Examination, WASSCE, results.

WAEC revealed this to journalists on Monday at the Press Briefing Hall, WAEC National Office, Yaba.

The body lamented that the inability to pay for services rendered was posing a great challenge in the activities of the examination body.

Responding to a question on the states owing WAEC, the National Officer of WAEC, Mr. Patrick Areghan, noted that “About eight states are owing WAEC. We won’t mention them all as some are going to pay.

Adeleke has no reason to beg Makinde — Aide

Olawale Rasheed, spokesperson to Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke has disclosed that his principal has no reason or need to beg his Oyo state counterpart, Seyi Makinde.

This follows news on social media that Governor Adeleke was prostrating for Makinde while begging him during a private meeting at Oyo State lodge in Abuja last weekend.

It would be recalled that the duo had a frosty relationship over the zonal leadership of the party, as Governor Makinde hardly attend meeting hosted by Adeleke in Osun state.

However, a statement issued by Rasheed on Monday, he described the said private meeting as mere concocted lies as he claimed that the two leaders met openly in the sitting room before cameramen.

According to him, Governor Adeleke visited the newly renovated Oyo lodge for inspection, especially as Osun house is also under renovation and the duo used the opportunity to discussed several issues relating to party politics.

Protest: Makinde, NLC, TUC end feud

Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State has finally addressed the aggrieved civil servants in the state in a bid to end the protracted five days protests embarked upon by the organised labour unions, which paralysed activities at the state secretariat.

The governor, while addressing the workers on Monday at the state secretariat, assured them that he would continue to place high premium on their welfare.

Speaking, Makinde noted that it was inevitable for misunderstandings to occur between two parties involved in a relationship, but noted that bygone was bygone having arrived at an improved understanding with the joint leadership of Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and Trade Union Congress (TUC).
