Tinubu Announces New Minister Designate For Niger Delta

ABUJA – President Bola Tinubu has approved the redeployment of Engr. Abubakar Momoh from the Federal Ministry of Youth to the Federal Ministry of Niger Delta Development.

A statement by Ajuri Ngelale, Special Adviser to the President on Media & Publicity, on Sunday, said the Federal Ministry of Youth is to be re-assigned to a Minister-Designate soon.

The Ministers-Designate allocated to the Federal Ministries of Transportation, Interior, and Marine & Blue Economy have been reshuffled as follows: H.E. Adegboyega Oyetola is redeployed as the Honourable Minister of Marine & Blue Economy

Hon. Bunmi Tunji-Ojo is redeployed as the Honourable Minister of Interior

While Hon. Sa’idu Alkali is redeployed as the Honourable Minister of Transportation

Furthermore, both Ministers of State in the Oil & Gas sector are now domiciled in the Federal Ministry of Petroleum Resources with the following designations: Sen. Heineken Lokpobiri is the Hon. Minister of State (Oil), Petroleum Resources

Buhari mourns soldiers killed in Niger State

Former President Muhammadu Buhari has expressed his sadness over the death of several soldiers killed in an ambush and a subsequent helicopter crash in Niger State.

According to the Defence Headquarters, 36 officers were killed in both ambush attacks and an evacuation helicopter crash.

Buhari, in a statement on Saturday and signed by his spokesman, Garba Shehu, also sent his condolences to President Bola Tinubu over the tragedy.

“I am saddened by the helicopter accident, following the tragic ambush in which we have lost our brave army personnel. My thoughts are with the bereaved families. I hope those injured recover at the earliest.

Junta demands three-year transition period, ECOWAS delegates meet Bazoum

The head of the military junta in Niger Republic, General Abdourahamane Tiani, on Saturday, said he would relinquish power within three years and warned that any intervention by foreign forces would not be a walk in the park.

He stated in a televised address broadcast by Tele Sahel, “Our ambition is not to confiscate power. Transition period will not exceed three years; meanwhile, political parties are urged to submit their vision for the transition within 30 days.

“There’s availability for any dialogue, provided that it takes into account the aspirations of the people of Niger. However, any intervention will open a Pandora’s Box and will not be a walk in the park.”

His warning followed the arrival of An ECOWAS delegation in the country for a final diplomatic push before deciding on military intervention against the junta.

Oghior Vs Ukpiovwin: Udu Legislative Arm Leader Appeal For Peace

The Leader of Udu Local Government Council Legislative Arm, Delta State, Rt. Hon. Owholo Emmanuel, has appealed to the people of Ukpiovwin and Oghior communities in the area to continue to live in peace.

Owholo, who made the appeal on Saturday, during a peace meeting initiated by him and Chief Vincent Oyibode with the two communities, urged them to be law-abiding.

He stated that the clash between the communities was ignited by gunshots alleged to have been orchestrated by some persons suspected to be indigene of Oghior which led to injuries of some Ukpiovwin people over development of a disputed land.
