NNPP BoT Suspends Kwankwaso

The Board of Trustees (BoT) of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) has suspended its candidate in the Feb. 25 presidential election, Sen. Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso for alleged anti-party activities.

The BoT also suspended the National Working Committee (NWC) of the party.

It also appointed new national officers headed by Dr Agbo Major as acting National Chairman and Mr Ogini Olaposi as acting National Secretary with 18 others.

The Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the suspension is for six months.

NAN reports that the suspensions were put to a voice vote by members of the party at its special general assembly, held at the Rockview Hotels in Apapa.

NAN recalls that the NWC of the party on Thursday, Aug. 24, announced the suspension of the founder of the party, Dr Boniface Aniebonam and the National Publicity Secretary, Major.

Wike Resolves Dispute Over Abuja Airport 2nd Runway

Federal Capital Territory FCT minister, Nyesom Wike has resolved the months-long dispute regarding the establishment of a second runway for the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja.

The Federal Executive Council, FEC, had in March 2022 approved the second runway, with the project broken into four components. The project was also meant for commissioning by June of 2023.

However, part of the Jiwa Community which hosts the runway, protested their eviction from their ancestral lands, demanding compensation from government.

At a troubleshooting parley with members of the community and other stakeholders on Tuesday, Wike said he understood their pains and would do all in his power to get them their dues.

Consequently, he directed the immediate payment of N825 million in compensation to the affected land owners.

Isese: Sowore calls for removal of Kwara CP

Former presidential candidate of the African Action Congress and human rights activist, Omoyole Sowore, has called for the removal of Ebunoluwa Adelesi as Kwara State Police commissioner.

Sowore said this while reacting to a Punch Online report about a Lagos Federal High Court summoning nine persons, including the Kwara State CP.

All nine persons were summoned for the arrest of Isese activists; Mr. Adegbola Abdulazeez. aka Tani Olorun; Madam Efunsetan Abebi Aniwura Olorisha aka lya Osun, and Chief Ademola Olawoore aka Baba Tede.

Reacting to the post, Sowore called for the removal of Adelesi whom he tagged ‘incompetent.’

President Putin Won’t Attend Wagner Leader, Prigozhin’s Funeral – Russian Government

President Vladimir Putin of Russia will not attend the funeral for Yevgeny Prigozhin, the mercenary chief who launched a failed mutiny against Russia’s military leadership and and died in a plane crash last week, the Kremlin spokesman said on Tuesday, according to Russian state media.

The spokesman, Dmitri S. Peskov, added that the Kremlin had no further information on the funeral, according to New York Times report.

Details about the event, including the date and whether the public would be allowed to attend, were unclear.

A private plane carrying Prigozhin and nine other people crashed northwest of Moscow on Wednesday, killing everyone aboard, but his death was not officially confirmed till Sunday, when Russian investigators said that genetic testing showed that the victims of the crash matched the names on the jet’s manifest.
