I'm Told That Former President Buhari's Grandmother Has Her Roots From Niger" -Dr Ladan Salihu

Dr. Ladan Salihu, a former Director General of the Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria, has suggested that the grandmother of former President Muhammadu Buhari has origins in Niger. In an interview in a video (40:55) with AIT news, he proposed that it’s possible Buhari’s roots trace back to Niger Republic. According to him, the strong bond between Nigeria and Niger cannot be severed.

He stated, “I’ve learned that President Buhari’s grandmother may have connections to Niger. When you visit Katsina and Daura, the border between Daura and Niger is barely noticeable. Hence, it’s not implausible to consider that Buhari’s lineage might include Niger or some relatives connected through cross-border migration.”

This highlights the deep relationship between the two countries. Diplomatic wisdom is necessary to comprehensively understand this situation. Engaging in any conflict with Niger is perilous, as it would involve communities across 148 kilometers spanning eight states, potentially pitting them against each other.
