The Julius Abure-led National Working Committee, NWC, of the Labour Party has accused the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, of sponsoring dissidents to destabilise the party.

National Secretary of the LP, Malam Umar Farouk, at a press conference held at the party’s National Secretariat, Abuja, yesterday, explained that the party was well aware of the desperate plot by the ruling party to cause confusion in the Labour Party in a bid to scuttle its chances in the forthcoming Governorship Election in Imo State.

According to him, the press conference was organised to clear the air on yet another attempt by expelled party members who rebelled against the LP and have gone ahead to misinform members of the public on the progress being made by the party.

Farouk said: “As you already know, the party surprised many Nigerians with the huge success it achieved during the last general election. The party became a household name, all to the envy of the older political parties. You also know how the ruling party, forced itself into power at the expense of the Labour Party and the entire Nigerians.

“We are still in the tribunal challenging both the process and outcome of the presidential election. In order to ensure a subjugation of the Labour Party, the ruling party has deployed all manner of strategies to stifle the party, part of which was to sponsor insurrection amongst some suspended former members of the party, Lamidi Apapa and a few others.

“Their assignment was to ensure that no progress is achieved in the party. The heavily-funded dissidents have tried to mislead the courts and some section of the media to harass the party leadership, but all have failed. Only recently, the Court of Appeal sitting in Benin City affirmed Julius Abure as the National Chairman of Labour Party (LP).”

East/West Road, Golgotha for N/Delta govs; all eyes on Umahi

In Christian theology, the word Golgotha connotes a frightening experience of danger. It is simply a place of suffering, difficulty or an outright death. Golgotha is therefore synonymous to Nigeria’s East-West road. It is one of the roads in the country that is as socio-economically important as it is infamous for negative reasons.

With over 740kilometers span and more than forty short bridges linking Calabar, Cross River state capital in the far flung South-South to Lagos state in the west, the road is the nerve that connects the nation’s oil and gas wealth to the rest of the world.

The deplorable state of the road today, leaves so much to be desired as it has become a death trap to the citizenry. According to available records, a trip from Calabar to Lagos on this road should be about ten hours and less than that duration from Port Harcourt, Rivers state capital to the same destination.

Unfortunately, traveling on the East-West road today, one needs to prepare to spend two or three days on the way before getting to his destination because of avoidable encumbrances in between.

The bitter experience of commuters spending many hours or days in the gridlock traffic that spans as long as over three kilometers stretch on both lanes of the road at Ologbo Kingdom in Benin, is what should be avoided like a deathly plague.

Lagos-based businessman and philanthropist, Eng Emeka Okwuosa, has advised Nigerian youths, especially those from the South-East geo-political zone, to avoid chasing wealth though fetish means as it is only God’s blessings that last.

He noted that seeking wealth through unquestionable means like internet fraud (yahoo yahoo) and fetish means would only bring sorrows in the long run.

“Nigerian youths should learn to compete with their counterparts across the world and quit chasing shadows and seeking fetish means to make wealth,” he said.

Okwuosa who is the chairman of Sir Emeka Okwuosa Foundation, spoke during the donation and dedication of a church edifice at Christ’s Church in Irefi-Oraifite, Ekwusigo local government area of Anambra State. He urged Nigerians to keep hope alive and rededicate their lives to God, trusting Him for the best in affairs of the nation.

Speaking to the congregation, Eng Okwuosa said, “Let us do whatever we are doing to the glory of God and humanity. As we yield ourselves to God, He will use us as a means of blessings to people around us. We shall overcome the challenges facing us with hard work and diligence, trusting in our maker to make a way out. For me, I am inspired to render service to God and humanity which entails giving the best to God because He is deserving of it. It is high time we left all negativity and both the rulers and the ruled should return to God for a better society that we desire and dream of.”
