According to the Punch,on Monday,3rd July 2023,another bloody assault perpetrated by a group of bloodthirsty bandits on residents of Ugba settlement,which is located in the Logo Local Government Area of Benue state resulted in the gruesome shooting of a member of the Benue State Community Volunteer Guards while two other victims were hauled away by the invaders to an undisclosed location.
Following the information obtained by news reporters,an eyewitness from the targeted community who doesn’t want to be identified disclosed to members of the press that,the armed assailants invaded the region at approximately 3 o’clock on Monday afternoon, adding that they came in numbers with a vehicle and started shooting intermittently to frighten the locals after which they made away with prized possessions such as:cash,phones and even two more vehicles.
“The gunmen shot an officer of the Benue State Volunteer Guards in the Ugba community, and they also kidnapped an educationist and a woman from the town. One of the State Volunteer Guards was injured at a checkpoint they had established to prevent the gunmen from escaping”,the eyewitness recalled.

Furthermore,the other wounded volunteer guard who was hit by bullets fired by the suspected bandits was rushed to the nearest general hospital for urgent treatment as he was losing so much blood by the time he was found while his other colleague who was killed was taken to the mortuary of the medical facility to deposit his corpse.
Reacting to the tragic attack,Ahokegh Terkimbi, who serves as the Public Relations Officer (PPRO) for the State village Volunteer Guards, verified the sad occurrence saying one person was sent to his grave,while another suffered bullet wounds,adding that,“my commander just confirmed that one of our personnel died in the terrific incident”.
In the meantime,the Superintendent of Police,SP Catherine Anene, who is the Public Relations Officer (PPRO) for the State Police Command,also corroborated the incident when approached for comments by local journalists, saying that the police are making efforts to rescue the woman and teacher who were taken away by the gunmen.
Flashing back on a similar occurrence on Friday,30th June 2023,the police correspondent made mentioned that,a group of gun-toting individuals also launched an attack on Tswarev/Ukemberakya Council ward inside the same local government area,whereby a member of the State Volunteer Community Guards lost his life, while two other guards were left in terrible conditions on their way back from a police station after going to hand over a suspected ram thief to the appropriate authorities.
