Speaker of Nigerian House of Representatives Vows Survival Packages Amid Minimum Wage Talks.

Hon. Tajudeen Abbas, the Speaker of the House of Representatives, stated that efforts are being made to provide Nigerians with survival packages while the negotiations for the minimum wage continue.

According to Premium Times report, this was disclosed during the National Policy Dialogue on Corruption, Social Norms, and Behaviour Change in Nigeria, organized by the ICPC and MacArthur Foundation.

Hon. Abbas emphasized the importance of ensuring that the minimum wage review results in a survival wage for Nigerians, as a low income can lead to corruption.

President Bola Tinubu had previously mentioned that Nigerian workers can expect their wages to double once the new minimum wage is implemented.

The special adviser to the president on media and publicity, Ajuri Ngelale, made this announcement during a discussion on the removal of fuel subsidy on a television program.

He also mentioned that governors now have more funds, as they received N300 billion in June, allowing them to better compensate their workers.
