Shehu Sani reacts as kidnappers abduct 8 corpers, who were traveling to Sokoto State in Zamfara

The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) was said to have been kidnapped on Saturday along a highway in Zamfara State, Nigeria’s northwest geopolitical region, according to news that was published online this morning by the Premium Times paper.

According to reports, all of the corps members were on their way to Zamfara from Uyo in Akwa Ibom State to Sokoto State to do their mandatory national service when their bus was stopped along a highway in Zamfara.

According to the story, a source from the transport business verified the occurrence to a reporter from Premium Times on Monday morning while speaking on the condition of anonymity.

However, when he responded to this on his official X account this evening, Senator Shehu Sani, a former senator who once represented the Kaduna Central Senatorial District, denounced the assault and called it a preventable tragedy.

He said in a tweet, “The news of the kidnapping of Youth Corpers by terrorists along the highway in Zamfara state is tragic; it is a tragedy that might have been prevented knowing the risks of that route, but we now have to deal with it. The government must take all necessary steps to ensure the victims’ lives and freedom.
