Enugu Guber: We Have No Witness –INEC tells Tribunal

According to DAILY POST, the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, on Wednesday, failed to present any witness to defend the election that produced Governor Peter Mbah of Enugu State.

At the Governorship Election Petition Tribunal resumed sitting in Enugu on Wednesday, INEC through its team of lawyers led by Humphrey Okoli told the court that the commission had decided not to bring any witness.

Okoli said: “The first respondent (INEC) is mandated to open the case. My Lord, after a thorough review of the case, we have decided not to bring in any witness”

The Labour Party, LP, Governorship candidate in the last election, Chijioke Edeoga, is challenging the victory of Peter Mbah of the People’s Democratic Party, PDP.

Senate May Get Ministerial List Today

According to DAILY TRUST, barring any last-minute change of decision, President Asiwaju Bola Ahmed will today send the list of his ministerial nominees to the Senate for screening and confirmation.

The national daily quotes multiple sources at the Presidency and the Senate as saying the list was ready for submission to the upper legislative chamber.

According to a source, the necessary checks and clearance by security agencies have been concluded and Senate President Godswill Akpabio, is expected to read the list immediately it gets to him.

The source said: “The list is ready and the president has informed the Senate of his readiness to submit the list on Wednesday. The Senate president is expected to read it immediately when he gets it.

“The necessary security checks and clearance have been concluded, thus the decision of the president to send it to the parliament. Either today or tomorrow, the list would get to the Senate.”

Another source, a ranking lawmaker, said they have been told to expect the list on Wednesday on Thursday and they intend to conclude the screening process before proceeding on recess.

He said: “We’ve been told that the list will come to us either today or tomorrow. We’re waiting and ready for the screening exercise. We’ll conclude the exercise before going on our annual recess which will last for about two months.”

Having been sworn-in on May 29, constitutionally, President Tinubu has up to July 27 to submit his list of Ministerial nominees to beat the 60 days mandated duration.

DAILY POST reports that Atiku Abubakar, the People’s Democratic Party, PDP, presidential candidate in the 2023 general election, has said his Labour Party, LP, counterpart, Peter Obi, inspires him.

In a message to Obi on the occasion of his 62nd birthday, Atiku in a post on Twitter, said the former Anambra State Governor is a respected leader, adding that his dedication to service and growth continues to inspire.

Atiku wrote: “Happy 62nd birthday to @PeterObi, a respected leader and distinguished former governor of Anambra state and presidential candidate of the Labour Party. Your dedication to service and growth continues to inspire.

“As you add another year today, I, on behalf of my family and team wish you many more years in good health and vitality. -AA”

Gunmen kill 3 in Imo

VANGUARD newspaper reports that gunmen have killed three persons in about two communities of Orogwe, Irete in Owerri west local government area of Imo state.

The national daily quotes a source as saying the attacks happened in different locations early this week. A former Enugu Psychiatrist director, popularly known as Jojo, was attacked and his vehicle snatched from him.

According to DAILY POST, a former Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, lawmaker, Anthony Adepoju, has said he resolved to work with President Bola Tinubu to ensure growth and development of the country.

Speaking while a guest on Kaftan TV, the lawmaker who represented Ibarapa Central/Ibarapa North, Oyo state, at the House of Representatives, said, “What I am after is the development of Nigeria. And the president we have is who we should work with. At this point, Tinubu is our president and I am ready to work with him.”
