Senator Walid Jibrin reacts to claim that it was Atiku who pressured him to resign as BoT chairman

Sen. Walid Jibrin, the former chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Board of Trustees, is said to have complained that his party has marginalised him because he is no longer invited to important party meetings. The politician from Nasarawa State, however, claimed that he was unconcerned by this development.

In an exclusive conversation with a Punch journalist on Wednesday, Walid Jibrin said that despite being a former Chairman of the BoT, he was neither recognised or given precedence at party meetings.

But none of them bother me, he said. Peoples Democratic Party members strongly backed me when I was the BoT chairman. Anyone who claims that Atiku Abubakar forced me to step down as chairman of the BoT is obviously false. I choose to leave on my own. Why did he (Atiku) not ask Ayu for her resignation? I’ve had a lot of people tell me not to stand down, but I know in my heart that it was the best decision.

He continued by saying that because northerners are not the sole members of the party, the north should enable the Southern area to assume control of the BoT. I like Senator Adolphus Wabara’s leadership; we get along well. If I’m not invited, I’ll still be a member of the People’s Democratic Party.

Alhaji Atiku Abubakar is contesting the outcome of the February 25th presidential election, in which President Bola Ahmed Tinubu was declared the victor, and Walid Jibrin expressed optimism that he would receive a favourable ruling at the Presidential Election Petitions Court in Abuja, the Federal Capital Territory, in response to the ongoing case at the Tribunal.
