Senate denies padding supplementary budget

According to Dailypost. The 10th Senate has vehemently refuted claims circulating in online news outlets regarding the alleged padding of the recently passed supplementary budget.

The upper legislative chamber, in a statement released by Senator Yemi Adaramodu, Chairman of the Senate Committee on Media and Public Affairs, dismissed the reports as mischievous and misleading.

The reports suggested that the executive arm of the government gifted N70 billion as an addition to the supplementary budget.

Senator Adaramodu expressed bewilderment over the origin of such claims, emphasizing that the process of passing laws was solely within the purview of the lawmakers.

The Senate, therefore, saw no need for any gifts from the executive to fulfill their constitutional duties.

The Supplementary Appropriation Act, as passed, was intended to allocate funds for various critical national needs, including the Federal Government’s Palliative for the Nigerian public.

The Senate maintained that the passage of this act was an essential constitutional obligation and not contingent upon any supposed gifts from other government branches.

Senator Adaramodu further clarified that the allocated funds would not be disbursed to individual legislators. I

nstead, the responsibility for managing the allocation would lie with the National Assembly Bureaucracy.

It was necessary to address the pressing requirements within the National Assembly complex, including the need for repairs and the provision of essential amenities for both legislators and the thousands of workers and service providers working in the complex.

The Senator pointed out that the National Assembly complex catered to numerous individuals beyond just the legislators and, therefore, framing the allocation as a palliative for lawmakers was misleading.

He emphasized that the allegations of padding in the budget were baseless and unfounded, perpetuated by those seeking to discredit the 10th Assembly.

In conclusion, the 10th Senate urged fellow compatriots to view the National Assembly as essential partners in the progress and development of Nigeria.

They affirmed their commitment to fulfilling their constitutional duties with diligence and integrity, working towards the betterment of the nation and its citizens.
