Manchester United have had a mixed record in the Europa League this season.

They lost 1-0 to Real Sociedad in their opening match of the competition, drawing a blank on the same night news of Queen Elizabeth II’s passing broke around the world.

But, since then, United have responded by claiming victory over Omonia (twice) and Sheriff to boost their chances of topping the ground.

The players have arrived at Old Trafford ahead of tonight’s game, with Ronaldo among them. Having missed the 1-1 draw with Chelsea on Saturday night, he’ll be aiming to start the contest having apologised to Erik ten Hag and the rest of the squad following his strop against Tottenham a few days previously.

The United star looked serious as he made his way into the stadium, sporting a new, short haircut for the game.

Antony, contrastingly, had a smile on his face and was happy to pose for a photograph as he seeks a fourth goal of the campaign.

Facundo Pellistri was spotted with the group, with the Uruguay international potentially primed to feature now he’s returned from injury.

Scott McTominay arrived, while Christian Eriksen made his way in wearing a face mask as he hopes to start again following his selection against Chelsea over the weekend.

He wasn’t alone in doing that, either, with David De Gea and Pellistri also wearing a mask too.

United go into the game on a high, having lost just twice since falling to defeat in their opening two matches of the campaign.

And victory over Sheriff would boost their chances of topping the group, with the Red Devils looking to avoid tricky ties against the likes of Barcelona and Atletico Madrid in the knockout stages.

Ten Hag feels United are developing well under his guidance, while also insisting the Red Devils must keep their focus in order to ensure they stay on the right track.

“Definitely. But going from one step to the other, the first thing we have to do is win the next game,” he said when asked if it was their aim to top the group.

“That is tomorrow so focus 100 per cent on this and don’t look too far ahead because then you lose focus. Focus on one thing – win the next game.

“It’s [only] four games and Europe is obviously different. But I like Europe. I like the European mindset, especially in the last game against Omonia when there was a great atmosphere in the stadium and then at the end when we scored the winner, it was really good to celebrate that, the players with the fans, and I hope we have that as well tomorrow.

“The games in Europe, we all use them to get better, to improve and that is what we have to do.

“We are not satisfied, we are happy with some of our performances, some of our results, but after 24 hours, we keep going and we come to the next one.

“We have to approach every game and see also in this moment where we are in the season.”

And, when grilled on United’s resilience of late, he added: “I think it’s good.

“I think it shows that we can come back and we can decide games in the last minutes, which shows that the fitness levels are good.

“But that is an investment and you have to keep that going. It’s a responsibility for us as the staff but especially the players, to do the right things, firstly at the training ground, on the pitch and in the gym, but also the recovery and the food is really important.”

United previously won the Europa League in 2017, back when Jose Mourinho was manager.

They made the final in 2021 but lost to Villarreal on penalties, in a match that was overseen by previous boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

Last season, United didn’t feature in the tournament.

They lost to Atletico Madrid in the last 16 of the Champions League, going down 1-0 after a goal from Renan Lodi.
