Rivers 2023: 2 Things APC needs to consider or it May be difficult for them to claim power from PDP

As the 2023 general elections draw closer, political parties are already making plans to see how they will be victorious in different polls. In Rivers State, the rivalry is between the ruling party, Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, and the All Progressive Congress, APC. While PDP will be looking forward to retaining power, the APC will be hoping that they play their cards right and take power from the PDP.

Since the current Governor, Nyesom Wike, will be completing his second tenure in office come 2023, and he will have to vacate the Governor’s seat for the next Governor, many are feeling that the APC will take advantage of the situation and reclaim power. But even though the little vacuum may slightly be in favour of APC, things will still be difficult for the APC if they don’t play their cards right.

Two things APC needs to consider or it may be difficult for them to reclaim power

1. PDP’s Achievement in the State through Governor Wike within the last 6 years.

Within the six years that Governor Wike has spent in the office as governor, he has commissioned a lot of projects and has achieved new feats. How is this a challenge for the APC? What Governor Wike has done since he assumed office has not only made a lot of people in the state put their Trust in the PDP but also lift the party. The people’s faith in the Party will make them support the candidate the Governor and the Party will select.

So APC will have to do a hard job in trying to convince the populace that PDP can neither be trusted nor will the PDP give them what they need.

2. The Crisis in Rivers APC

The Crisis in Rivers APC is another major problem that will make it difficult for the APC to claim power. There is no unity in the party as the party is divided into factions. The crisis is not something that started today. Due to the internal crisis in the State, the court had to stop them (APC) from participating in the 2019 General elections in Rivers state. And also, they did not participate in the last council polls.

And with the way the power tussle is going on, what happened in 2019 may likely end up repeating itself.

In my view, If the APC wants to beat PDP, then they need to consider these two reasons and seek a way to overcome them.
