Tribunal: We may not have all this noise if they have done what we have been telling them- Yabagi

In an interview with Arise TV , Yabagi Sani, the Chairman of the Inter Party Advisory Council (IPAC), raised concerns regarding the controversy surrounding the 2023 Presidential election tribunal. He suggested that had the petitioners heeded IPAC’s call for cohesiveness, the election dispute might not have garnered such attention. Sani emphasized the importance of unity after the President’s victory, asserting that all political parties should rally behind the elected leader for the nation’s benefit.

Sani stressed the necessity of deliberate efforts to foster cohesiveness, rather than assuming it will naturally occur. He pointed out that Nigeria’s political landscape extends beyond the ruling party, the All Progressives Congress (APC), and that it’s essential to recognize this fact. He noted that when you combine the votes obtained by Asiwaju (a reference to a prominent politician) and those of the two other opposition parties, their collective support exceeded the President’s votes. However, he underscored that the crucial point is the President’s declaration as the winner, necessitating unity and support from all quarters.

Sani noted that following IPAC’s advice could have potentially mitigated the current political turmoil and controversies surrounding the election. By emphasizing the need for unity, he suggested that the ongoing disputes and public discord might have been avoided.

He lamented the lack of cohesiveness among political parties in the wake of the 2023 Presidential election and suggested that if the petitioners had adhered to IPAC’s guidance on unity, the post-election controversies could have been minimized. He stressed the importance of recognizing Nigeria’s diverse political landscape and the need to support the President, regardless of party affiliations, after their election victory.

According to him; ”The nation needs a kind of cohesiveness which must be done deliberately. You don’t say it will take care of itself. And then, Nigeria does not begin and end with APC, that is the truth that must be told. If you add together the votes scored by Asiwaju, and the one scored by the two other opposition parties, the two opposition parties are even more than what the President scored. But that is not the point, the point is that the President has been declared as the winner, so we must all come together and support him. I’m telling you, if they had done what we have been telling them, we may not have all this noise we are having today.”
