Senators Holiday Allowance: I Didn't Receive Any Prayers – Ireti Kingibe Reacts To Akpabio's Remark

Senator Ireti Kingibe, who represents the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Abuja in the Senate, claims she did not get any ‘prayers’ in her email from Senate President Godswill Akpabio. Kingibe, a Senator from the Labour Party, LP, was responding to Akpabio’s statement during the day’s plenary session that ‘prayers’ had been conveyed to lawmakers as they went on recess.

The Senator talked on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Wednesday, claiming that she did not get any unusual allowances. “No, actually, I didn’t receive any prayers, but I’ll check my email for the prayers,” Kingibe joked, adding that she had no idea what Akpabio was talking about. According to reports, at the Senate’s plenary session on Wednesday, the Senate President said, “In order for all of us to enjoy our holidays, a token has been sent to our various accounts by the Clerk of the National Assembly.”

Akpabio later retracted his statement, defining the alleged dispersal as “prayers” delivered to their “mailboxes.” While conceding that most people assumed allowances were provided to lawmakers, he explained that such payments could have been statutory payments that we would have received regardless.
