Reactions Trail Obi's Tweet As He Shares Pictures Of Himself At LP Rally Ahead Of Edo LGA Polls

During a visit to Benin City on Monday, Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi met with supporters and interacted with candidates running in September’s local government elections. Obi shared photos from the trip on Twitter, thanking his supporters, known as “Obidients,” for their hospitality.

The former Anambra governor stressed the importance of local governments, reflecting on his time as governor over a decade ago. During his tenure, Obi ensured funds allocated to local governments were used effectively for healthcare, education, and poverty alletion.

Obi’s visit comes as momentum builds behind his campaign ahead of February’s presidential election. The third-force candidate has drawn large crowds across Nigeria in recent months, positioning himself as an outsider who can shake up the political establishment. His rallies have mobilized many young voters who are eager for change.

By meeting with local candidates in Edo, Obi signaled a grassroots strategy that starts from the bottom up. Strong local government institutions will be key to implementing his policy vision nationally. The upcoming local elections will test the strength of Obi’s support outside of his home region.

Obi emphasized the warm reception he received in Edo, an important South-South state. Winning votes across Nigeria’s diverse geopolitical zones will be critical for Obi come February 25. As the candidates he met with campaign at the neighborhood level, they will spread Obi’s message of competent and transparent governance guided by fiscal responsibility and social justice.
