Reactions As Shehu Sani's Tackles FG Over Proposed 8k Monthly Palliatives To Poor Nigerians

As Nigerians continue to discuss whether the recently announced 8000 monthly palliatives for the nation’s 12 million poor households will be effective, reactions have started to follow a social media post made by civil rights activist and former Kaduna lawmaker Senator Shehu Sani, who criticised the initiative by equating it to the divisive feudal and alms-giving system frequently used in the Northern part of the nation.

Sani, a leader of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), insisted that the Federal Government’s proposed monthly 8 000 naira payment to poor and vulnerable Nigerians across the country is comparable to the “Almajiri” system used in the north in a brief tweet he posted on his verified Twitter account on Friday, July 14.

As was to be anticipated, a wide range of Nigerians have responded to Sani’s tweet in various ways, with many taking to the comments area to express their opinions.

While some people agreed with his statement, others defended the administration, stating that palliative would be welcomed by the impoverished throughout the nation.

Below are screenshots of some responses.
