Reactions As Shehu Sani Urges Nigeria And Other West African Countries To Scrap Their Currencies

A few hours ago, civil rights activist and former Kaduna Lawmaker, Senator Shehu Sani took to social media to call out Nigeria and her neighbors in West Africa to ditch their respective currencies for a unified legal tender.

In a lengthy tweet posted on his verified Twitter handle on Tuesday night, Sani, who represented the good people of Kaduna Central Constituency at the 8th National Assembly, argued that by emulating European countries like Germany, Italy, Greece, and France who sacrificed their deeply historical currencies for the financially stable unified legal tender (Euros) across the continent, there is no reason why West African countries like Nigeria, Ghana, Sierra Leone, and other West African nations cannot scrap their territorial bank notes to secure the financial future of their economies and their citizens.

As expected, Senator Sani’s remarks have drawn quite a flurry of mixed reactions from Nigerians online, with many trooping to the comments section to share their thoughts.

While some persons concurred with the former Lawmaker’s call for a unified legal tender across the West African sub-region, others, however, provided opposing views.
