Reactions As EFCC Recovers $470,000 In The House Of A Former Bank Staff Arrested For Alleged Fraud

The Anti-corruption agency disclosed that the suspect, Abdumalik Salau Femi was a former bank employee who allegedly supplied confidential information to criminals to facilitate the attack on the bank by the syndicate.

The Agency said Femi was arrested on the 1st of November, 2022. Following his arrest at the Radission Blu Hotel in Lagos, the agency conducted a thorough search on his home in Morgan Estate where a total of $470,000 was recovered.

“Also arrested in connection with the fraud is Abdumalik Salau Femi, a former bank employee, who allegedly supplied the inside information that facilitated the attack on the bank by the syndicate. He was picked up today, November 1, 2022 at Radisson Blu Hotel in Lagos.”

“Following his arrest, a search was conducted on his home in Morgan Estate, Ojodu where a total of $470,000 USD was recovered”. –An extract of the statement that was posted on the Agency’s official facebook page.

The Agency disclosed that Abdumalik Salua Femi is suspected to be working with a syndicate of fraudsters who pulled off a heist of N1.4 billion by hacking some commercial banks.

Others arrested in connection with the fraud include Ismaila Yusuf Atumeyi, a Kogi Politician seeking to represent Ankpa 11 Constituency in the Kogi State House of Assembly; one Joshua Dominic, an alleged serial fraudster. All the suspects are believed to have worked together to carry out the fraudulent act.  

Two of the suspects, Atumeyi and Dominic were said to have been arrested on Sunday, 0ctober 30, 2022 with N326million and $140,500 cash, following a sting operation carried out by the agency at Macedonia Street, Queens Estate, Karsana, Gwarinpa, Abuja.

The Agency noted that the suspects allegedly laundered N887 million through the account of an oil and gas company. The money was later paid to several Bureau de Change Operators and some auto dealers for exchange into the USD and purchase of expensive cars.
