Reactions as Betta Edu says President Bola Tinubu will lift 136million out of poverty

According to the official Facebook Page of The NATIONS NEWSPAPER, the minister of humanitarian affairs and poverty alletion, Betta Edu, has revealed that President Bola Tinubu intends to help approximately 136 million impoverished Nigerians escape poverty. The minister expressed the president’s dissatisfaction with such a high number of people living in poverty.

Edu made these remarks in Abuja during her inauguration as the head of the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alletion on Monday, August 21. Additionally, she stated that the ministry’s objective is to generate 10 million job opportunities.

She provided explanations for why the ministry was renamed, stating that the government wanted to redirect its focus and ensure that poverty in Nigeria was addressed head-on. She also expressed the belief that having a younger person in the ministry would bring energy, innovation, and speed to urgently reach the country’s 136 million people.

Additionally, she mentioned that the President would introduce programs aimed at improving the lives of Nigerians and eradicating poverty, as a significant number of people in the country currently live on less than $1.90 per day. She emphasized that this situation would no longer be tolerated and that President Bola Tinubu was determined to bring renewed hope. She further stated that the goal of lifting 136 million Nigerians out of poverty was achievable and would be implemented in stages, with strong support from the President.

On the number of jobs to be created, arg said, “We’ll be creating a minimum of 10 million jobs from this ministry.

“Just the same way we have development partners come in and they hire people to offer humanitarian services on short term contracts and the rest of it, we too will be creating those opportunities for Nigerians.

“So let’s just get ready, because its a full package from the President, who came prepared with a compassionate heart, and aside the fact that he is a master strategist, this is his flagship ministry.”

The minister charged workers at the ministry, its agencies and development partners to support her, adding that she would push to achieve the targets of the President in alleting poverty in Nigeria.
