Adams Oshiomhole, senator representing Edo-north, says President Bola Tinubu will achieve feats that his predecessors could not attain.

Speaking with NAN on Wednesday, Oshiomole said Tinubu is already laying a solid foundation for development in the country, noting that the president has broken many grounds since he assumed office.

He added that the president has also broken the jinx in the federal capital territory (FCT) ministerial appointment by appointing Nyesom Wike as the minister.

“This singular move shows that anyone can become a minister regardless of their birthplace, tongue and dialect,” Oshiomhole said.

For me, one of the ground-breaking decisions President Tinubu has taken is to give every part of Nigeria hope that regardless of your birthplace, tongue or dialect, you can be the minister of the FCT.

“Many people didn’t think it was possible. We give thanks to God for giving us such a president that opens his doors to anyone who wishes to see him and who has information to share.

“We give thanks to God for having a president who has listening ears for whoever has something to tell him.

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has refuted claims of purchasing a N300 million Armoured Lexus LX600 SUV on the assumption of office.

Mr Wike made the rebuttal shortly after a visit to Metro Train Station, Abuja, on Wednesday to inspect the ongoing rehabilitation of the Abuja Rail Mass Transport System.

The Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that some sections of the media had published a picture of an Armored Lexus SUV model LX 600 fitted with ‘FCT – 01’ plate.

The reports claimed that the SUV, which cost more than N300 million, belonged to the new FCT Minister, Mr Wike.

But Mr Wike refuted the claim, describing it as mere “mischief”, stressing that he was sworn in on Monday and had not even sat down to work yet.

He said that all he did was interact with staff, and today (Wednesday), went to the Metro Train Station, Abuja, with the Minister of State for FCT to see things for themselves.

“We are now going back to the office to interact with each of the departments in the Federal Capital Territory Administration.

“But I have seen what is going on in the social media, how the FCTA Permanent Secretary bought a bulletproof car of N300 million that I am using.

“So, I want you people to go hit your hand there (on the car) and see whether it is a treated car.

“With all due respect, people should be careful not to destroy other people,” he said.

The Lagos house of assembly on Wednesday declined the confirmation of 17 nominees recommended by Babajide Sanwo-Olu, governor of the state, for commissioners and special advisers.

The state lawmakers at the plenary confirmed 22 out of the 39 nominees.

In July, Sanwo-Olu sent the list containing names of 39 nominees as commissioners and special advisers in his cabinet.

Those nominated by the governor include Gbenga Omotosho; Sam Egube; Akin Abayomi; Aramide Adeyoye; Tokuno Wahab; Rotimi Ogunwuyi; Gbenga Oyeriinde; Lawal Pedo; Mobolaji Ogunlende; Dolapo Fasawe and Toke Benson-Awoyinka.

The house of assembly has since carried out the screening of the nominees.

At Wednesday’s plenary, Mudashiru Obasa, speaker of the assembly, called the names of the nominees one by one while the lawmakers responded with either nay or aye.

At the end of the exercise, 17 of the nominees, including Gbenga Omotosho, former commissioner of information, and Akin Abayomi, ex-commissioner of health were not confirmed by the assembly.

The speaker asked the clerk of the house to forward the names of those cleared to the governor.

Obasa urged the nominees cleared to diligently serve the people of Lagos, adding that they are accountable to the residents and not the governor or speaker.
