Presidential Tribunal: Judgment on Obi, Atiku’s petitions to be televised

In a significant development regarding the ongoing Presidential Election Petition Court proceedings in Abuja, it has been decided that the judgments on the three petitions aiming to unseat President Bola Tinubu will be broadcast live on television. This decision, announced in a statement by the court’s Chief Registrar, Mr. Umar Bangari, underscores the commitment to transparency and openness in the judicial process.

According to Vanguard, the court emphasized that access to the courtroom on the judgment day, scheduled for Wednesday, will be exclusively granted to accredited individuals, including legal representatives of political parties. The move to televise these judgments is seen as a step toward enhancing public awareness and understanding of the legal proceedings surrounding these crucial petitions.

The three petitions in question, identified as CA/PEPC/03/2023, CA/PEPC/05/2023, and CA/PEPC/04/2023, were filed by various parties. Mr. Peter Obi of the Labour Party (LP), former Vice President Alhaji Atiku Abubakar representing the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), and the Allied Peoples Movement (APM) all submitted these petitions. These petitions have been the subject of extensive legal arguments and scrutiny before the court.

The panel, led by Justice Haruna Tsammani, gave the green light for the judgments on August 1, following the conclusion of arguments and presentations by all involved parties.

This decision to broadcast the judgments live on television reflects the court’s dedication to transparency and its desire to allow the public to closely follow these significant legal proceedings. It aims to ensure that the outcome is seen as fair and just by a wider audience and underscores the importance of openness in the democratic process. Interested members of the public are encouraged to tune in to television broadcasts to observe these crucial judgments.
