Presidential Tribunal: It Is Possible That The Court Can Confirm Tinubu’s Victory – Christopher Sarki

Christopher B. Sarki, former Route Commander of the Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC) and National Chairman of the Coalition to Strengthen Democracy for Good Governance Initiative (CSDGGI), believes that the Presidential Election Petition Tribunal (PEPT) can validate President Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s victory.

In an interview with the national daily, THE SUN, Sarki acknowledged discrepancies during the February 25th presidential election. He commended the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for its efforts in concluding the election and announcing the results. He emphasized the need for collective efforts to sustain democracy in Nigeria.

Regarding the proposed palliatives by the Federal Government to address challenges arising from the removal of fuel subsidy, Sarki expressed reservations about handing the palliatives to governors. He cited the lack of trust in state governors due to hoarding of essential items during the 2020 COVID-19 lockdown, which were meant to support vulnerable Nigerians. Sarki added that palliatives alone wouldn’t allete poverty and hardship, asserting that fuel prices would continue to rise until local refineries are repaired.

Commenting on the actions taken by the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) to address the crisis in Niger Republic following the military takeover, Sarki criticized the hasty ultimatum issued to the coupists. He urged President Tinubu, ECOWAS Chairman, and his counterparts in the region to explore diplomatic channels for dialogue with the coup plotters. Sarki suggested that after exhausting peaceful methods, ECOWAS could resort to force to remove the junta.
