Presidential election tribunal: Erroneous judgment may lead to Niger coup situation – Ohanaeze warns

As Nigerians expect the presidential election petition tribunal to give its final judgement, the Igbo apex social-cultural organisation, has cautioned the judges against issuing erroneous judgement.

The Ohanaeze Ndigbo also said Nigerians might witness the Niger Republic military coup situation, if the Judges issue an erroneous judgement.

According to Daily Post, the Igbo social cultural group cautioned the judiciary to be independent in their verdict of the 2023 general elections in Nigeria, which is has resulted to allegations of irregularities and non-compliance with electoral laws.

Factional secretary-general of the group, Okechukwu Isiguzoro, said the lack of compliance to electronic transfer of election results from polling unit to the Independent national Electoral Commission Central server, fuelled the concern.

According to Daily Post, Okechukwu Isiguzoro stated that as Nigerians seriously await the verdict of the presidential election tribunal, their expectations are high for an uncompromised and unbiased rulling by the judges, adding that the interpretation of the constitutional requirements for a presidential candidate to win 25% of 2/3 of the States and the federal Capital Territory Abuja, is an important issue that the judiciary must consider.
