It's Time We Stop Asking Why Coups Are Succeeding In Africa And Why Democracies Are Failing – Shehu Sani

In the wake of the removal of President Ali Bongo Ondimba by the military junta that has seized power in the french-speaking country of Gabon on Wednesday morning, civil rights activist, and former Kaduna lawmaker, Senator Shehu Sani has urged Africans to change their line of thoughts in the bid to unravel the mystery behind the alarming spike in military coups that appears to be currently sweeping across the continent.

In a tweet posted on his verified Twitter handle a few minutes ago, Sani, who represented Kaduna Central Constituency at the 8th National Assembly, argued that instead of people to keep asking why military coups appears to be on the rise in Africa, they should, instead, scrutinize the reason why democracy appears to be receding.

He wrote; “It’s time we stop asking why are military coups succeeding in Africa, and start asking why are democracies failing in Africa.”
