Samson Kennedy and Wilfred Emmanuel, both students at the University of Benin, Edo State, have been arrested, according to the Edo State Police Command. Francis Aniude’s bruised body was found in the Ekosodin River in the Ekosodin community, which is close to the Ugbowo campus of the school.
SP Chidi Nwabuzor, who is in charge of public relations for the state police, told our reporter that this was true and that the suspects were helping the command with the current investigation to find out what happened to the victim.
A student who didn’t want to be named out of fear of being hurt said that the suspects asked Aniude to swim in the river on June 29, the day he was said to have drowned.
The student continued, “After the dead man drowned, the two ran back to the Ekosodin community to ask for help from the community and watch members, but the dead man died before anyone could help him.

“Local divers pulled the body out of the river on July 1.” The two students were arrested because there was blood on the dead man’s lips and peeled skin around his neck, which made his family and friends suspicious. They want an autopsy to find out what happened.
Nwabuzor said that the case was reported to the Ugbowo Police Station. He also said that the Divisional Police Officer and his men led a team of local divers to the scene of the event.
“They were able to find the body, which is good. The case has been sent to the State Criminal Investigation Department so that it can be looked into further.
“Two people were caught because they were in the river together when the bad thing happened. “It’s very important that we catch them so we can find out why they left their hostel and went to that river at that time, as well as what happened in the river,” Nwabuzor said.
