Surreal scene on a Casablanca-Istanbul flight, operated on December 7 by the Turkish company Pegasus Airlines. The pilot had to request around 4:30 a.m. to make an emergency landing at Barcelona’s El Prat airport, because a woman on board was about to give birth and “this passenger had allegedly lost her water”, said a source of the prefecture of Catalonia.

When the plane landed at Barcelona airport, an ambulance and three police patrols came to evacuate the pregnant woman. At the same time, about thirty passengers then “left the plane and tried to flee”, indicated the same source. Five of them changed their minds when they returned to the plane and eleven others, including the pregnant woman, were arrested.

According to police sources, the arrested passengers could be deported to Morocco, the country of their origin. The fourteen other passengers who managed to leave the Barcelona airport compound are still wanted by the police. The El Prat prefecture did not specify the nationality of the fugitives. Regarding the alleged pregnant woman, an examination at the hospital revealed that she “was not about to give birth, so she was arrested for disturbing public order”, added this source.

This is the second incident of its kind involving Moroccan passengers at a Spanish airport. On November 5, 2021, an Air Arabia Maroc plane, connecting Casablanca to Istanbul, had to land in an emergency at Palma de Mallorca Airport, when one of the passengers had simulated discomfort. As he was being evacuated from the plane, 21 passengers managed to escape. Most Moroccans, only 12 people could be found.
