Tinubu Writes Senate, Asks For Service Chiefs’ Confirmation

President Bola Tinubu has submitted a letter to the Senate, requesting the confirmation of newly appointed service chiefs. Senate President Godswill Akpabio disclosed this during the plenary session on Tuesday, stating that the Senate would conduct a thorough screening of the service chiefs in the Senate chamber, although a specific date has yet to be announced.

Additionally, last week the President also requested the House of Representatives to confirm the newly appointed service chiefs. Speaker Abass Tajudeen read the President’s letter during the Thursday plenary session.

The President appointed the new service chiefs on June 19. The previous security chiefs who were removed from their positions included retired Maj-Gen Babagana Monguno (National Security Adviser), Lucky Irabor (Chief of Defence Staff), Faruk Yahaya (Chief of Army Staff), Awwal Gambo (Chief of Naval Staff), and Isiaka Amao (Chief of Air Staff).

The new appointees are Nuhu Ribadu (National Security Adviser), Maj. Gen. Christopher Musa (Chief of Defence Staff), Maj. Gen. Taoreed Lagbaja (Chief of Army Staff), Rear Admiral Emmanuel Ogalla (Chief of Naval Staff), and AVM Hassan Abubakar (Chief of Air Staff).
