Obi Outlines Next Move As He Rejects PETC Verdict

The Presidential Candidate of the Labour Party, Mr. Peter Gregory Obi has rejected the judgement of the Presidential Election Petitions Court and vowed to to see the end of the election in the Supreme Court.

Obi who addressed journalists in Onitsha on Thursday rejected the judgement describing it as not being conterminous with justice.

While acknowledging the PEPC’s adherence to statutory time frames, he expressed respect for the Court’s views and rulings but openly disagreed with the judgment’s rationale and final conclusions.

He announced his intention, in his capacity as the presidential candidate and on behalf of the Labour Party, to immediately challenge the judgment at tge Supreme Court as permitted by the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

Highlighting the fact that the PEPC is not the ultimate authority in the matter, Obi emphasized that the responsibility now rests with the Supreme Court, which he expressed confidence in.

According to Vanguard news, Former President Muhammadu Buhari has expressed joy over the ruling of the Presidential Elections Petition Court (PEPC) confirming the victory of the All Progressives Congress (APC), its candidate, President Bola Tinubu and his running mate, Vice President Kashim Shettima in the February 25 election.

In his reaction after the judgment, he said the PEPC has “written history” by spurning intimidation and all manner of prejudice to deliver justice according to law to a majority of citizens whose wish is that the choices they made are respected.

A statement issued by his spokesman, Garba Shehu, quoted him as saying: “If anybody has won today it is the democracy and the people,” adding “with the verdict of the Supreme Court, the election period is over and it is time to put the heat and dust behind us.”

He advised that the new APC administration led by Tinubu should get the support of everyone in order to deliver the promises it made to the people.

No fewer than 30 people have been reported dead in a landslide reportedly caused by the activities of illegal miners in the Kuje Area Council of the Federal Capital Territory FCT.

Nineteen persons were also on Thursday kidnapped in the Bwari Area Council of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja.

At the first meeting between the Six Area Council Chairmen and the FCT Minister, Barr Nyesom Wike, on Thursday, the information about the happenings came to light.

The minister, who was irate at the latest developments, announced that he would call the FCT Director of State Services and the Commissioner of Police to a meeting in order to provide them with adequate information on the kidnapping and to support rescue efforts.

While he asked the council bosses to set up a surveillance task force in their areas to monitor mining activities, Wike said he would meet with his counterpart in Solid Minerals, Dele Alake to eliminate illegal mining in the FCT.

Katsina Govt Recruits 1,500 Community Watch Corps, Buys Security Vehicles

Katsina State Governor, Dikko Radda, says his administration has so far recruited at least 1,500 Community Watch Officers drawn from the eight frontline local government areas of the state.

This he said, is part of measures to empower the residents to defend themselves against terrorist attacks.

Radda, who was speaking on Wednesday during a media chat held at the Katsina Government House as part of activities to mark his 100 days in office, maintained that insecurity important to his administration, hence his government has attacked it head-on.

According to the Governor, the creation of the Ministry of Internal Security and Katsina State Community Watch Corps was the beginning of institutionalizing his strategy to deal with insecurity where he enacted a security containment order and set up an advisory committee on security in the state.

His administration, he explained, has spent seven billion naira to procure armoured personnel carriers, 65 Hilux vehicles, 700 motorcycles, provided training for the Community Watch Corps Officers, and other security equipment.
