Gov Campaign Council: APC Reverses Self, Disowns List Containing Wike

The Abdullahi Ganduje-led National Working Committee, NWC, of the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, has disowned its list of National Campaign Councils for Bayelsa, Imo and Kogi governorship elections.

Party spokesman, Felix Morka, in a statement on Tuesday night said: “The attention of the All Progressives Congress has been drawn to National Campaign Council Lists for the 11th November, 2023 Governorship Elections in Bayelsa, Kogi and Imo states in circulation in sections of the media. The lists are not official documents of the Party and should be disregarded.”

APC had earlier on Tuesday evening set up three National Campaign Councils for the November 11 governorship elections in Bayelsa, Imo and Kogi states.

Federal Capital Territory FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, a member of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, was Number 6 on the list released by the party for the Bayelsa. Wike had earlier been named by the PDP in its campaign council.

Gabon: I’m Not Surprised, Expect More Coups—Fani-Kayode Warns

Former Minister of Ation, Femi Fani-Kayode says he is not surprised about the military coup in Gabon.

Fani-Kayode’s statement is coming on the heels of a coup in the Central African country.

Daily Post reports that army officers in Gabon have announced seizure of power after the third term re-election of President Ali Bongo on Saturday.

The top army officers made the announcement on Tuesday.

The officers reportedly said they were annulling the outcome of Saturday’s election which the opposition had rejected and described as “fraudulent”.

However, Fani-Kayode in a post his social media platform X, formerly known as Twitter, stated that people should expect more coups in the Francophone countries of West and Central Africa.

Business magnate, Tony Elumelu has applauded some of the economic decisions taken by President Bola Tinubu, saying the private sector is encouraged by the decisions.

Speaking after a meeting with the President at the Presidential Villa on Tuesday, the founder of the Tony Elumelu Foundation said he believes that with time, Nigerians will benefit from the decisions taken.

Breaking: Gunfire in Gabon as soldiers seize power,cancel election result

A dozen Gabonese soldiers appeared on television Wednesday announcing they were “putting an end to the current regime” and the cancellation of an election that, according to official results, President Ali Bongo Ondimba won.

During the announcement, AFP journalists heard gunfire ring out in the Gabonese capital, Libreville.

While announcing the cancellation of the results one of the soldiers said “all the institutions of the republic” had been dissolved.

“We have decided to defend peace by putting an end to the current regime”, one of the soldiers said on TV channel Gabon 24, adding that he was speaking on behalf of the “Committee for the Transition and Restoration of Institutions”.

“To this end, the general elections of 26 August 2023 and the truncated results are cancelled,” he added.
