PEPT: Nigeria does not begin and end with APC, that is the truth that must be told- Yabagi Sani

In an interview with Arise TV , Yabagi Sani, the Chairman of the Inter Party Advisory Council (IPAC), made a significant claim regarding the 2023 presidential election tribunal. He stated that much of the controversy surrounding the tribunal’s proceedings could have been avoided if the petitioners had heeded IPAC’s call for unity. According to Sani, the essence of cohesiveness among political parties is crucial, and it should not be taken for granted. He noted that supporting the President after the election results were declared is the expected course of action for all political parties.

Sani stated the need for deliberate efforts to foster unity among Nigeria’s political landscape. He said that the country’s political spectrum extends beyond just the All Progressives Congress (APC), acknowledging the plurality of voices and votes in the election. Interestingly, he pointed out that when you combine the votes received by Asiwaju, a prominent opposition figure, and the two other opposition parties, their collective tally surpasses that of the President. However, Sani stressed that the central point is that the President had already been declared the winner, necessitating unity and support from all quarters.

The IPAC Chairman further expressed the belief that if the petitioners had adhered to IPAC’s counsel, the current uproar and controversies surrounding the election results might have been considerably reduced. In essence, he implies that a unified stance and a cooperative spirit among political parties could have averted much of the discord currently prevalent in the political landscape. He argued that the 2023 presidential election tribunal could have been less contentious had the petitioners paid heed to IPAC’s advice on unity and support for the declared winner.

In his words; “Nigeria does not begin and end with APC, that is the truth that must be told. If you add together the votes scored by Asiwaju, and the one scored by the two other opposition parties, the two opposition parties are even more than what the President scored. But that is not the point, the point is that the President has been declared as the winner, so we must all come together and support him. I’m telling you, if they had done what we have been telling them, we may not have all this noise we are having today.”
