PEPT Judges Said They Didn't Admit Evidence Of A Witness Because She's An LP Member – Nwaokobia

As the judgment handed down by the five-man panel of Justices that presided over the Presidential Election Petitions Tribunal (PEPT) continues to occupy the front burner of public discourse across the country, renowned lawyer, and chieftain of the Labour Party, Professor Chris Nwaokobia has accused the judges of being biased with their ruling regarding the evidence tendered by his party during proceedings.

Speaking during an interview on ARISE TV’s ‘The Morning Show’ program on Saturday, Nwaokobia, who was a spokesman for the Obi-Datti Presidential Campaign Council, stated that while reading out their judgment in court on Wednesday, the judges had revealed that they refused to admit the evidence tendered by a witness because she was a member of the Labour Party.

Going further, Nwaokobia pointed out that the same judges turned around to accept the evidence of a witness brought by the APC, who not only was a member of the ruling party, but is also a serving lawmaker.

He said; “In law, we were taught that Judges do not descend into the arena. This means that they do not grant prayers you do not ask for. Let me say clearly that in one of the paragraphs of the judgment, the judges came down to the arena. They said a certain witness from the Labour Party, that’s the lady from Amazon, that they cannot admit her evidence because she is a member of the Labour Party.

And then they turned around to admit the evidence from a sitting Senator, who is a reputable member of the APC, Bamidele Opeyemi. Like we said before the judgement, all eyes were on the judiciary, meaning that it was the judiciary that was on trial.”
