Things Are Not Working Because Nigeria Copied American Constitution – Bode George

Chief Bode George, a former Deputy National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, said on Tuesday that things aren’t working in Nigeria because the country’s constitution is based on the American constitution.

The PDP chieftain made the remarks as a guest speaker at the Fifth Year Lecture hosted by SWAAYA Limited, creators of the Freedom online news platform. The topic of the presentation was “2023-2027: Nigerians, Elected Leaders, and Expectations.” During the event, which was held at the Function Suite of the Sheraton Hotel in Ikeja, Lagos State, George stated that the Nigerian constitution “is military in setting” and needed to be reviewed.

He said, “Having served that long in the military, I can authoritatively confirm to you that the Nigerian constitution is entirely military in nature. Orders are issued from the top down in the military. “However, in a democratic regime, power flows from the people to the top.” But because we imitated the American constitution, things aren’t working. We must be delusory if we believe that this constitution would lead us to the promised land.” The PDP boss also praised the idea of state policing, saying it would be a very effective means of securing the country.
