Today's Headlines: We did not suspend Kwankwaso – NNPP, Lagos pays N2bn to 644 pensioners.

We did not suspend Kwankwaso – NNPP.

According to Daily Post, The National Working Committee (NWC) of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) has refuted the purported suspension of Rabiu Kwankwaso, the 2023 presidential candidate of the party.

The party’s national auditor, Ladipo Johnson, stated this at a news conference on Wednesday at the NNPP national headquarters in Abuja.

Johnson, a former spokesperson for the Kwankwaso Presidential Campaign Council, declared that the suspension was null and void.

A faction of the party, headed by its former Board of Trustees (BoT) chairman, Boniface Aniebonan, suspended Kwankwaso on Tuesday for six months over alleged anti-party activities after a parallel National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting in Lagos.

It also appointed the former National Publicity Secretary of the party, Major Agbo, as the acting national chairman.

Johnson, however, said that Aniebonam and Agbo were suspended for three months on Aug. 24 for engaging in unwholesome acts before they were later expelled from the party.

He added that the party’s NEC, at its meeting on Tuesday in Abuja monitored by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), took certain decisions, including the election of new national officials, the change of the party’s logo, and the expulsion of Aniebonam and Agbo.

Lagos pays N2bn to 644 pensioners.

According to Daily Post, The Lagos State Government says it has paid N2.017 billion in retirement benefits to 644 pensioners.

According to NAN, the Director-General of the Lagos State Pension Commission, Mr Babalola Obilana, disclosed this on Wednesday at the 101st batch Retirement Bond Certificate presentation for retirees in Lagos State.

He noted that the government is committed to rewarding those who serve the state.

According to him, the N2.017 billion payment is the retirees’ past service benefits before the commencement of the Contributory Pension Scheme in 2007.

“It is indeed an honour to recognise and commend the retirees’ hard work and commitment demonstrated throughout their years of service to Lagos State.

Gov Bago sets Niger’s annual revenue target at N120bn.

According to Daily Post, Niger State governor, Mohammed Umaru Bago, has given all revenue-generating ministries, departments, and agencies (MDAs) a marching order to generate an annual Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) target of N120 billion.

Bago gave the order when he presided over the enlarged inaugural State Executive Council (SEC) meeting at the Council Chamber, Government House, Minna.

He stated:”All the revenue-generating MDAs should redouble their efforts to make sure the monthly target of N10 billion is achieved.”

He argued that for the current administration to deliver dividends of democracy to the citizens, things must be done differently and rightly.

Bago, who said “any file will not last 24 hours on my table,” urged government officials to follow suit.

He avowed that his administration would be deliberate in its policies and ensure it invested in agricultural equipment to turn around the fortunes of the state.

Benue: Activist drags Gov Alia, police, others to court over ‘illegal arrest, detention’.

According to Daily Post, A Benue social media activist, Mr Gyenyer Paul Terhemba, has sued Governor Hyacinth Alia, police officials and the Attorney General of Benue State.

Terhemba said he was wrongfully arrested over a story on his Facebook page about a N200 million fundamental rights suit.

Gyenger said the governor and law enforcement officers wrongfully arrested him and has been in custody unjustly.

Gyenger was arrested last Friday, August 25, 2023, at his residence in Gyado Villa, Makurdi, over his Facebook post of August 18, 2023 where he wrote that the governor of Benue State has allegedly diverted N2 billion sent to the state by the federal government out of the N5 billion palliatives meant for the people.

He also alleged that the governor used part of the money to complete his Guzape Abuja mansion.
