Niger: The Crisis That Affects All These French-Speaking Countries Stems From France Colonialism – Bode George

Olabode George, a former vice chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), said that President Tinubu Bola and the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) have enough room for dialogue with the coup leaders in Niger.

George said this while speaking in an interview with Arise Television on Tuesday.

He said: “When they meet tomorrow, I suggest that there be enough space for dialogue and that the crisis that affects all these French-speaking countries today stems from France’s approach to its own colonialism.

“If the British had colonies, the French had the principle of assimilation. In other words, they didn’t let go. He added that there was not a single French country in all of Africa where the French government did not have a minimum battalion.

The former army general said, “You learn from your experiences. We were in ECOMOG, which was the country that was responsible militarily, financially, and in terms of personnel for the armed forces. We did very well; what was the benefit to Niger?

“Before you think of going to war as a nation, you teach your sons the national interests of your country; everything that falls from there does not affect you a bit, but if someone violates your national interests, you can go to war because you go there to protect something so important for your country.” How can we go to Niger now, learning from the experience of ECOMOG? What is the use? I call on the heads of state of ECOWAS to be more careful. The war between Ukraine and Russia has now lasted more than a year; they are still fighting, and innocent people are dying. War is not a tea party, and chi is better than war.” I speak from experience and the fact that Niger is not the only country in the entire geopolitical zone of French-speaking countries with a military regime, from Guinea to Burkina Faso, Mali, Niger, Chad, and Sudan. It takes you from the western Atlantic in the Red Sea to the entire African zone in the Sahara. Why Niger? he said.

Recall that George warned President Tinubu to think twice before declaring war on the Republic of Niger.
