Osun PDP nominates Kamarudeen as South-West Zonal Chairman

The Osun State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has put forward Barrister Ajisafe Kamarudeen as their nominee for the position of South West Zonal Chairman of the party. This decision was reached during a stakeholders’ meeting held in Osogbo, with the meeting attended by significant party figures including State Governor Ademola Adeleke. The gathering was convened to address a range of pertinent issues.

Among the resolutions outlined in the released communique are decisions related to key leadership positions within the party. The participants deeply discussed the vacant South-West zonal chairmanship due to the unfortunate passing of the former chairman, Hon Soji Oluwatukesi Adagunodo. Acting in accordance with the directives of the national party leadership and after consulting with party leaders in the region, the meeting nominated Barrister Ajisafe Kamarudeen to assume the vacant role. However, this nomination is contingent upon receiving final approval from the national party headquarters.

Furthermore, the assembly tackled the matter of appointing members to local government caretaker committees within the state. As part of this resolution, stakeholders representing all 332 wards were instructed to submit a single nominee each for consideration in forming the caretaker committee. The timeline for these submissions is set at one week. The final list of nominees will be presented to the leader of the party, who will then forward the selections to the State Assembly for approval.

The communique also conveyed appreciation for the approach taken by the State’s Executive Governor and party leader, particularly highlighting his openness and maturity in governing the state. This commendation extended to his recent actions such as the appointment of Commissioners and Special Advisers.

Notably, the former PDP South-West Zonal Chairman, Soji Adagunodo, who had previously held the position of PDP Chairman in Osun, passed away in 2022. The position was left vacant after his unfortunate demise. The nomination of Barrister Ajisafe Kamarudeen as his potential successor reflects the party’s commitment to maintaining effective leadership within the South West Zonal structure despite the challenges posed by the loss of the former chairman.
